Bury St Edmunds was the host town for Suffolk Day 2026, and there was a range of events on offer to celebrate this year from a farmers and craft market, to an organ recital and of course, the Suffolk Day proclamation.
Wayne Bland, SALC Board Member, attended on behalf of SALC and has provided the following words: We attended the Suffolk Day event, in particular the Mayor’s Civic Reception Proclamation and Medal Ceremony.
The Bury St Edmund’s Sea Cadet Band set the standard for the event with an impressive display at the start of the reception that had hotel guests opening their windows to listen to the ensemble, loved it !!
There were 4 recipients of the coveted Suffolk Medal, they were Liz Harsant, Michael Laskey, Libby Purves OBE and Dr Soni Sushil. Medals were awarded by Mayor Donna Higgins, High Sheriff of Suffolk Oliver Paul and Lord-Lieutenant of Suffolk Mark Pendleton.
