Local councils play an important role in local planning matters and are consulted on planning and development that affect their communities, providing an opportunity to bring a local perspective to decision-making. 

A number of councils in Suffolk have made neighbourhood development plans which follows a prescribed process presenting a number of opportunities and challenges along the way.  SALC have published a general overview page on the topic of planning - INFORMATION PAGE - planning | SALC Website and it is a good place to start to understand more about what can seem a complex subject.

On April 15th 2025, SALC hosted a planning webinar with POS Enterprises. The objective of the session was to offer practical guidance about effective engagement with the town planning system, without the jargon and focusing on the issues local councils care about.
